ABSTRACT

Vitamin d is organic substance necessary in our diets for growth and development of our body.
Vitamin c prevents cancer and cold. Vitamin c is present in citrus fruits . Heating effect on fruit juices were tested how they effcts on ascorbic acid present
Deficiency of vitamin c is very rare in western countreis . But it is still liable in alcoholic and drug addicts .whose diet hardly includes vitamin mainly found in poor peopl. Vitamin c is no doubt important for our health but we can have toxicity in foods which are high in vitamin c it rarely occurs . Vitamin c seems to be able to security of symptoms in acommon type of cold by lessening the no of the oxidizing ogents that are generated by the defence cells of the body

Ascorbate can also sometimes act as a good antioxidant against oxidative stress.
[2] but the fact that enantiomer D-ascorbate normally not found in nature) . It has same antioxidant activity to the L-ascorbate, but a less vitamin activity
3] the fact that most of the functions of the L-ascorbate like a vitamin depends not on its properties of antioxidant but ontthe enzymic reactions that are mainly stereospecific. "Ascorbate"the enantiomeric form is always supposed to be chemical L-ascorbate.Ascorbate which is the anion of ascorbic acid) is required for many of essential metabolic reactions in not only all animals but plants also. It has been made internally by most of the organisms; the main exceptions of animals are bats, guinea pigs, and the Anthropoidea , Haplorrhini, which are one of the two major suborders, which of tarsiers, monkes, and human beings and other apes also. Ascorbate has not been synthesized by some of birds and fishes too. All species whivh do not synthesize it, they require it in their diet. Deficiency in this vitamin mainly causes the disease scurvy, in human

A Triple Berry Smoothie, which is made up of one cup each of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, and two table spoons of Ovaltine Chocolate Molt contains such essential nutrients as protein, fat, fiber, sugar, and vitamins. Essential nutrients, hence their “essential” moniker, are required to be consumed on a daily basis in order to live. A key essential nutrient present in the Tripe Berry Smoothie is Vitamin C. One cup of raspberries contains 53% of the daily requirement for Vitamin C, one cup of blackberries contains 50% of the daily requirement for Vitamin C, one cup of strawberries, cut in half, contains 149% of the daily requirement for Vitamin C, and two table spoons of Ovaltine comprises of 10% of the daily requirement for Vitamin C. In all, someone who consumes this smoothie will consume 162% more Vitamin C than what is recommended. Despite having almost double the amount of Vitamin C that is recommended, consuming this is not harmful.…

Experiment 11: Peptides and Amino Acids The purpose of this experiment was to study the amino acid composition of artificial sweeteners and then observe simple acid and base catalyzed reactions of the amino acid and artificial sweetener aspartame. This was achieved by performing a TLC analysis using ninhydrin as an indicator to observe the composition of the amino acid as well as two of the components that make up aspartame. This is followed by the addition of an acid or base to aliquots of diet sodas to examine the resulting reactions and compare them to a known hydrolyzed aspartame sample. The most common method of synthesizing amides is through the reaction of a primary or secondary amine with a carboxylic acid derivative.…

From what is known regarding ascorbic acid, researchers were able to validate the urgency for the vitamin. For one, it is vital for the production of collagen, a protein found in connective tissues that bind and support other tissues. Lack of collagen explains some of the early symptoms of scurvy. Although scurvy was mainly an issue during the age of exploration, it is still present in modern day life. Without the proper intake of ascorbic acid daily, humans still run the risk of developing this disease.…

This process allows higher metabolic energy to be produced through oxidative phosphorylation and decreases oxidative stress on the muscle cells. This has been revealed based on observation through rodent studies whereby resveratrol supplementation significantly increased treadmill running times. The end result is improved exercise endurance performance. Resveratrol itself has antioxidant properties and upregulates cellular mechanisms of oxidative resistance by inducing mitochondrial superoxide dismutase in human cells. The cardioprotective effects of resveratrol and other polyphenols may be in part to their ability to decrease LDL cholesterol oxidation, and therefore the pro-inflammatory cascade that ultimately leads to atherosclerotic plaque formation.…

However, aspartame is still found in thousands of products on the shelves of supermarket stores. This paper studies the main arguments on both sides of the controversy surrounding aspartame and two recent safety studies; ultimately seeks to illuminate the truth on the safety of aspartame in humans. Before one can study the main arguments for and against the use of aspartame, general information regarding the synthetic nonnutritive sweetener should be known. Aspartame is hydrolyzed into three metabolites: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol . Aspartic acid is present in all consumed proteins and used, in the human body, to make other substances such as energy or fat .…

Introduction Vitamin D is a group of fat-soluble secosteroids which is responsible for improving the intestinal absorption of inorganic ions such as calcium, zinc, iron, and magnesium, phosphate. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) and Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) are most vital compounds in the human being. Vitamin D is not actually a vitamin, but a steroid hormone formed in the body when the skin is exposed to sunbeams, mainly ultraviolet B light (UVB) rays22. The compound vitamin D has been found in organisms that are more than 500 million years old, including phytoplankton (Emiliania huxleyi), and diatoms (Skeletonema menxelii), which can endogenously synthesize vitamin D (ergosterol, or vitamin D2).Vitamin D is a steroid hormone with pleiotropic…

Abstract: The objective of this experiment was to synthesize aspirin from salicylic acid and acetic anhydride. The general theory behind this experiment was to study the synthesis of a drug from organic materials. During the experiment, esterification had occurred between reactants salicylic acid and acetic anhydride. Then, phosphoric acid would catalyze the reaction and water would be added to decompose the remaining acetic anhydride. Through the process of filtration, aspirin crystals were collected and separate from the liquid acetic acid-water solution.…

Vitamin D that is synthesized in the skin from cholesterol would enter the capillary system and be transported by DBP into the peripheral tissues. Only very little excess vitamin D would be stored in the liver for later use. Metabolism of vitamin D is activated by two hydroxylations. The first would occur in the liver while the second is carried out by the enzyme a-1-hydroxylase in the kidney. The first hydroxylation would produce 25-hydrocy-vitamin D3 while the second would produce 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (calcitriol), which is the most active form of vitamin D. A-1-hydroxylase activity would be increased by parathyroid hormone (PTH) in the presence of low plasma concentrations, producing increased amounts of calcitriol.…
