Effects Of The Stamp Act Of 1765

I can remember this dreadful experience like it was yesterday… it was March 22, 1765. The Stamp act was passed by the British parliament. It was exposed to all the American Colonist, including me. It caused every colonist to pay taxes on every piece of printed paper they needed and used. Such as ship’s papers, legal documents, licenses, newspapers, and other publications. You even get taxed for playing cards. After the French and Indian war, the British government had many depts. The war had been very expensive. In order to pay these expenses the government made a series of taxes. The first was the sugar acts, we weren’t to happy about this one so we decided to to use less molasses. Since that did not work the government decided to make another tax. This hit us much harder. It went into effect on November 1, 1765. It was called the stamp act because it used a stamp to be put on every paper we used. In the colonial times we used paper even more. Some colonist were loud and liked to be violent. Some would “tarred and feather” the tax collectors. Being tarred and feathered was a form of punishment, they took tar and smeared it on their face then smothered them with feathers. Other colonist didn’t like to go that route and had more of a peaceful way and went to the congress. We spoke against the act and from there we got the results of a document called “ The Declaration of rights and grievances”. This made it where the colonist got the same rights and rules than the British, so we had the right to speak out against what we think is unfair and what our opinion
