The industrial revolution had mainly negative effects. The industrial revolution was a time in world history that has technically never ended. It is the time when society began to mass produce products in order to provide enough products for the booming population. People moved from villages to cities where factories were looking for workers. Medical advances rose in the world and people began to live longer. People are ambivalent on the subject of whether industrialization was positive or negative, however , several argue the industrialization to have had primarily positive consequences for society for the reason of the increased amount of original and cheaper products, it had a negative effect towards society. Industrialization’s negative effects were the dangerous and lethal work areas, poor living conditions and cramped housing, and the long work hours, which took away from quality family time.

Mary Elizabeth and her coworkers crowded together as they tried to make their way home after a nineteen-hour shift, which is over double the acceptable amount of time to work in the twenty-first century United States. Furthermore, to show how early people had worked, the “Child Labor” picture shows the light coming in through the window at such an angle that it is either early morning or the sun in almost setting (Document 8). These hours would be hard for a child since jobs likely did not start in the middle of the day or the middle of the night. With today’s scientist pushing that kids need at least 8 hours of sleep, a twelve-hour shift is too long considering that people also need breaks to eat and attend to their hygiene in addition to walking to and from
