Immigrants Affecting American Economy
“Our attitude towards immigration reflects our faith in the American ideal. We have always believed it possible for men and women who start at the bottom to rise as far as the talent and energy allow. Neither race nor place of birth should affect their chances” (Kennedy). The United States is a nation built from immigration. Hundreds of men and women came here from overseas and built a nation. A lot of immigrants are here legally, gaining citizenship the legal way, although some cross the border illegally and don’t bother to do things legally. I believe that the United States should not deport immigrants because without them, agriculture and …show more content…
According to David Benkof, “Immigrants have shown they think our immigration rules do not apply to them. They have jumped the line- basically stealing a chance at a better life from millions of people around the world who would like to live in America” (Haugen). Immigrants, a lot of the time, will just come to the United States illegally because they don’t want to pay any fees that are associated with the citizenship process. David Haugen says, “In 2014 more than 1 million immigrants gained citizenship. It takes 5 years to gain citizenship, unless the immigrant’s spouse is a citizen, then it is 3 years. It would be very hard to make a good policy for immigration that works well for both sides. It is hard for Americans to understand the situation that immigrants are in. As the immigrants see it, America is a nation made of immigrants that is the greatest place to go to work and live the American dream; however, by kicking out all the immigrants we …show more content…
The amount of immigrants allowed into the United States should be limited also, no matter if they want to do things legally or not. I believe if the cost of becoming a citizen is nothing, there will be a lot more immigrants pouring into the United States. There would absolutely have to be a limitation because the population would most likely skyrocket.
Temporary protected status is a program for immigrants who cannot return to their country because it is too dangerous. Temporary protected status typically lasts for 18 months, although certain immigrants have had theirs extended because conditions are still too dangerous, such as the 195,000 El Salvadorans who were renewed last July. According to Logan Hawks, “Recipients get work permits, welfare, drivers licenses, social security, and protection from deportation. The countries covered by the temporary protected status include Guinea, Honduras, Haiti, Liberia, Nepal, Nicaragua, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, and Yemen (Hawks
