The reason for this behaviour is because social media takes people away from real relationships. Social media has depleted face to face contact/relationships. Face to face contact use to be the only way people could meet others and when one is face to face with another person they cannot pretend to be someone else. There are some many cases where a person pretends to be someone else and they think nothing is wrong with this behaviour even though it is hurting others. This act is extremely selfish! Social media has also made people become every lazy. Maltese philosopher Edward De Bono says that “social media stops people from original thinking.” He argues social media causes “laziness”: “we just feel we’ll just get more information and we don’t need to have ideas ourselves – we’ll get ideas from someone else, we don’t need to look at the data we’ll just see what someone else has said and so on.” (Zevallos, 2011) An example of this would be people who use the search engine Google to answer homework questions or anything else they

Technology is changing the way humans communicate in a negative way. Ever since the rise of social media and the ability to email and text, it is obvious that social interaction is slowly decreasing. It seems that most people are more comfortable with sending a quick text or email than calling or talking face-to-face with a person. Since the majority of people in the society have access to technology, they also have easy access to social network accounts where they can fool people into thinking that they are someone they are not. In other words, people are not being honest in terms of who they really are.…

Social Media ties to addiction It is believed that using social media can be addicting and can cause substance abuse and addiction. This is completely incorrect, social media does glorify drugs and alcohol and can be an addiction in itself but it may not cause drug and alcohol addiction. It can contribute to an addiction, because addiction is developed over a period of time and cannot be caused by one thing, such as social media. The addictive qualities of social media, including the glorification of drugs and alcohol, can contribute to addiction but cannot be its sole cause.…

In today’s society, information gets shared by billions of people every day through different means of social media. Whether they are qualified or not, people always tend to share the opinions on social media, usually on events that are happing in our world. This creates a variety of opinions that people from all over the world can see, however, sometimes these opinions effect people, perspectives and can have a really big influence on them. Bullying for example, someone that might have a huge following on the internet (like the most popular kid in school) tend to have a saying in the school which creates a network with a hierarchy. The interactions with others, behaviour, and personal health, all have been affected because of the distractedness of social media. In the journal article Distracted by Raymond Gozzi, he mentions why teens use electronic devices: “They use electronic contracts to avoid face-to-face interactions. It is easier to text someone a short message, and get texts back, than to actually talk to them” (Gozzi 111). Through the use of social media, people can pick and choose what they want to involve themselves in, whether it be conversations, events, etc. By avoiding face-to-face interactions, they begin to lack the social skills necessary in life.…

Unfortunately, while instant communication via social media has made communicating with others much faster and easier, actually meeting up with a person and talking to them is a convention that has fallen by the wayside. Many people, especially the younger generations, display this: they are constantly on their phones, laptops, or tablets in public, but when it comes to interacting with others in person, they suddenly tense up, not knowing quite what to do. This phenomenon of social awkwardness is caused by the pseudo-anonymity that social media provides: if I post something online, even if my name and picture is attached to it, it still seems that it is less of a representation of me as if I had said it in person. With this “anonymity” come problems, such as…

Social Media is something that many of us have allowed into our lives either out of necessity or desire. Since the website Myspace became popular with the elder youth of my generation, social media has become a part of our western culture. As the popularity of social media quickly grew, people like Mark Zuckerberg wanted to take advantage of the opportunity for the betterment of the university he was attending. Zuckerberg presented the idea of a website that would connect students on the Harvard campus to promote activities and raise awareness of happening events. When Harvard refused any connections with Facebook, Zuckerberg continued the site independently, opening it to anyone with access to the World Wide Web, and thus Facebook was born.…

Social media has impacted our society and social interaction in a huge way. I hope that we can get more advanced in the future. I hope that we can keep up with our social interaction, even if and when our technology gets more advanced. Again, we talked about how children are more prone to bullying over a computer screen rather than in person, we aren’t afraid to speak out on social media but in person is a different story, we can meet new people with a click of a button and news is easy to get here unlike in other countries. All of these have impacted my life living in the United States.…
