Today’s addictions are not drugs or alcohol but rather social media; social media is a keystone to our everyday life. It doesn’t matter if we are sitting at a traffic light, getting ready in the morning or in the middle of a test, we feel a need to check our phones and social media constantly. It’s a type of anxiety if we fail to check our phones every five minutes. It really affects us mentally, leaving us with many new age issues like loss of attention to detail, reduction in our ability to retain information has decreased, and just an overall drop in performance and productivity. So how does this translate to the rest of our lives? Well as students, the majority of us are addicted to our devices and it’s a constant distraction in our school …show more content…
School districts are slowly replacing teachers who are not tech savvy; with teachers who utilize and teach technology in their classroom. Results will show, through using social media and devices in the classroom teachers are creating an environment where students can interact and learn together, through the devices we so desperately try to hide behind. In today’s classrooms technology is used mainly as a displaying device to show content which is an eco-friendly way of saving trees and time of handing out papers. But, instead, we should turn technology from a tool to display content to a tool for learning hands on. Imagine every student being equipped with some form of device that teachers can send files to and allow students to open and edit said files any way they choose, right at their fingertips. Now these devices are open for students to write all over making notes and jotting down questions to ask later. These devices will allow a new way for students and teachers to communicate with each other with questions from virtually anywhere with an internet connection creating a community among classmates and the teacher that can solve problems together. A study done by Elavsky and his coauthors saw a large disengagement in their …show more content…
Technology has been at a standstill when it comes to education for years without any advancements since SmartBoards, which replaced projectors. Even using simple teacher websites already provided by the school to interact with students are not put to the fullest use and sometimes not even used at all from my personal experiences. Yet, all the technology we need to create a vast new environment for students to explore and learn together is already widely available to the majority of students and teachers. Web-based programs and apps that are already active and completed can go a long way towards converting social media into an educational tool. Apps like Twitter, Skype, and Facebook can be used by teachers to speak to students in a way that students can likely be reached. Social media can not only be used to create and facilitate discussions in the classroom but also provide an outlet for students to reflect their thoughts to their peers through the use of blog posts or discourse through Twitter. Schools need to evolve with the students they are teaching; students are born attached to technology and driven by it. Technology is now a part of who we are

Being a grown up in today’s world is expected of students by the time they are out of highschool. Everyone wants to be a successful adult when and after they graduate, and there are ways to ensure that. Kids need to realize how important individuality is, kind of like how the Transcendentalist of the 1800’s did. With this being said, they need to be socially active and interact with people, maybe through certain interests, and gain experience. This can be done in person or with technology, which is another big deal for students.…

Almost 16 years into the 21st century, the world is becoming more technologized everyday. Although this may be a great thing for new advancements in the society, technology should not become something people are dependant on. Every year, schools become closer to being solely technology based learning, and this is the wrong path for teaching students critical thinking and long term learning. A major federal study by Education Weekly reported, “No difference in academic achievement between students who used the technology in their classrooms and youngsters who used other methods” (Trotter).…

Students’ education has changed over the years and the reason for it is technology. For hundreds of years teachers have used books, paper, and pencils to teach their students, but for the last few years technology has become part of everyone’s life in one way or another. Students and teachers are getting their technology through the classroom and it has impacted student learning. Technology has positively impacted student learning because they have more motivation, self-esteem, are completing complex tasks and help others more, while it has the negative impact of poor work and shorter attention span to tasks. One way is that technology has increased students’ motivation to learn and their self-esteem in what they learned.…

Philosophy of Teaching Influences on Teaching The past 50 years have greatly changed the way the world views public education. During this time, I feel that the dynamic relationships between community, teachers, and families have grown weaker. It could be argued that technology 's influence has helped to create this change with negative opinions and harsh reviews about the teaching profession, and it is being shared on a more global basis. In addition, you see the structure of families has also changed throughout the years.…

Sometimes a student needs a little extra to help them learn, but is the use of tablets really what they need? Some articles like “No Child Left Untableted,” lead readers to believe that some teachers are not for the use of tablets in the classroom. They argue that the tablets remove the cherished confidentiality that personal communication brings to the world of learning. On the other hand, articles like, “Improving Technological Literacy,” persuade readers to justify the use of technology in the classroom. Not unlike teachers, I wholeheartedly endorse that classroom technology does an insufficient job in teaching students, and should be steered away from if possible.…

The best classes are classes that use mobile technology. Mobile technology is any portable device that can connect to the internet. Whether I’m looking up research material for that paper due in English, emailing my school counselor about applications for college, or working on a Halloween project for the school haunted house, I’m using my smartphone. My smartphone is a little school companion. It holds example photos of that Spanish alter project, calendar dates for when papers are due, class notes on how molecule bonds are structured, and flashcards of those pesky drama vocabulary terms.…

In the world, there are very few inventions that can remain unchanged for more than a century, for example, the light bulb was invented back in 1879 and for more than a century it essentially retained its original design of a hot wire inside a glass structure. In the same way, the structure of most schools in the Unites States has preserved its structure of a teacher delivering a lesson to students who listen from their desks for as long as even our oldest relatives can remember. One does need extensive analysis to notice the continued awareness among students and educators that something is inherently wrong; excessive testing, suppressed creativity, soaring levels of stress and the interest in learning seemingly lost. To make matters worse,…

The use of technology along with education has been in question, especially with elementary level students. The whole learning experience for elementary students has changed dramatically. In most elementary schools, instead of having overhead projectors there are regular projectors that project the computers for PowerPoints and such.…

Technology Use in the Classroom Today, students are remarkably tech savvy and create and consume large amounts of media. In contrast to these students, teachers and principals are often unaware of what goes on in the students’ digital world and are often afraid to engage with it. This gap has created a shift of power in schools allowing students to be the experts of technology. Many educators fear change and the release of power that comes with the use of technology. With the invention of smartphones, laptops, and tablets, media content comes onto campus every minute of the school day through the internet, email, and text messages.…

This class stretches you to go completely out of your comfort zone to truly see what teaching is going to be like. The methods and strategies that we have discussed in this class have given me a different perspective on teaching and the education system in the United States. One of the very first methods/strategies that I hope to incorporate in my future classroom is the sense of a learning community.
