The Reality of Social Media The purpose of social media was to create a way for people to interact and share their lives with others via internet. Whether people are countries apart or even a few feet away they are still able to communicate using social media. This unique creation has given people a way to get closer and drift farther apart. Social media is used in everyday lives for many different purposes. Its main goal and purpose is to provide people with a different form of communication that allows them to connect and interact with each other. Although, social media is an online tool that allows people to interact with each other using the internet; there are many ways that in reality it makes people less connected when face to face with each other. There is a distance that is created between people that is caused by social media. Even though someone may be posting things on Facebook or other forms of social media they can still feel alone. The urge to post something about one’s life is caused by the feeling to be connected with other people even though they may feel alone. If one is not careful with it though it can have many negative sides to it. Some of these being long term and others may simply be in the moment. It is important to once in a while to completely turn off all electronic devices and simply enjoy the company and people that are around. It is very easy to get distracted by things that bring no benefit in the long run. All the hours spent scrolling through a news feed in the end does nothing, but waste time. When using social media, it is important to be cautious and not let it have too much influence on how people live their life.
