Surrounding teens with people who like them for who they are and support them can make the greatest difference. Being around those who also have low self-esteem, it’s easy to work together and help one another slowly build confidence. Being in such an environment, students can learn to build each other up rather than tear themselves down. The I am B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L organization has a hope mentoring program where girls (ages ranging from 7-18) go through one-on-one mentoring where they can learn to identify their own strengths as well as “have the self-confidence and self-esteem to achieve their goals.” Similarly, school clubs can provide students with a safe environment where no one will judge them for being who they are. Through the media platforms that are viewed daily, it has become difficult to avoid trains of self-doubt. As a result, adolescents are struggling socially, while relentlessly trying to fit in. If this issue is not addressed, more and more teens will fall victim to low levels of confidence, making it difficult for them to be themselves. Instead of living in a world of unique individuals, all we would have is millions of uniform people because no one has enough self-esteem to stand out. Having a school club or organization can help prevent this dystopia by providing students with a safe environment and surrounding them with like-minded and supportive peers.
