When you take away the label, they are able to decide for themselves what they can or cannot do and that is an important step in the recovery process for anyone that is going through treatment for drug abuse. This way, they are able to start getting a grasp on their lives again and are able to do for themselves without having someone always be by their side when they need help.
In the 2004 study A Group Intervention Which Assists Patients with Dual Diagnosis Reduce Their Drug Use: a Randomized Controlled Trial, James Preston and others study the difference between a group intervention group and a control group. In this study, the researchers recruited 58 participants to be in a drug treatment program study. All participants were recruited from different clinical centers across Western Australia (985). There were many different criteria to get into the program and many to also stay in the program. The program had a very strict routine. The women are each allowed to have two children with them the duration of their stay at the program and the children attend school while they are in the program. There are many different programs that the ladies can be a apart of and engage in. They are required to go to two group sessions weekly and to also attend at least one hour of individual intervention during the week (41-43). Even though this program is well thought out, the completion rate is very low. There are many factors such as family, jobs, and other obligations that don 't allow a patient to stay in the program. Overall, the design is well thought out, but needs to be better thought out and more flexible for patients that have issues staying in the
