The increase in social media websites attracts adults and teens to spend more time on electronic devices. The increase in media consumption has lead to many reported health problems. Common health problems reported are vision, posture, childhood obesity, and sleeping disturbance. As stated in The Effects of Screen Time on Health by Dr. Gadi Lissak: Sitting for hours in front of a screen can cause eye fatigue, visual impairment, focus, and ability to concentrate. This also commonly causes neck and shoulder pain, along with headaches. Reducing your child’s screen time can make huge improvements in your child’s health and development. Lack of screen time for young children will not slow their development. When they get older they will develop the skills they need. It is commonly known that the more time young children spend watching television, the more junk food and fast food they are likely to eat. For every hour a child watches television per day, on average a child consumes an additional 167 calories. It is known that increased food intake goes hand and hand with becoming overweight and the use of video games. Even though there are active video games, such as the ones played on a Wii console they do not lead to increased physical activity for children.
