They have been physically attacked and hurt with this issue. In 1808 slave price went up and it grew into being a larger problem that was more effective (Colley). When slaves were told to do something then did not obey they would get hung and killed. “In everyday life, blacks in the South had to defer to whites, whether giving up their seats on a bus or letting whites pass on the sidewalk. If they didn't obey, they faced violence and even death. According to the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, almost 4,000 black men, women, and children were lynched by white mobs from 1877 to 1950” (Elder). This has been the major issue of racism that most people have remembered about all African Americans. They are all judge as one by what has happened in the past and that past is a situation that will always be talked about. Many schools make the history of African Americans a learning lesson. It is something that will always be taught even in today’s time. There is more issues that lead to this, children are taught about history but history had many problems that lead to the big matter of racism. African Americans clearly have great courage and responsibility yet those who are discriminating them have multiple reasons for doing that. People who discriminate establish it on skin color and the feeling of fear, pride. jealousy, and ignorance (Ucheikpa). African Americans have the most trouble with their skin color because right as people look at Africans they see the history and differences they have compared to others. No matter what has happened people will always stereotype one another's race. Racism has an aspect of being used when someone feels that they are better than the other person and the fear of unknown. Everyone has lived through a situation where they do not know the person or thing and that makes someone automatically feel fear toward that person or thing. An article on “Human Rights Commission published in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, 1984 says this on Racism: “Racism is one of the worst things that can happen to a community. It poisons personal relationships; stunts economic growth, and can even lead to violence. But the saddest thing of all is what racism can do for our children.
