Should recreational marijuana use be legalized in the United States?

Marijuana finds it’s way into almost everyone’s lives at some point.
It is a very prominent issue in society today. Should use of marijuana be legalized? Although many people on the opposing side of this debate have made many slanderous claims, statistics and studies have proven them false.
Many argue that legalization is evading America’s responsibility to protect young people and it is sending the wrong message. But the substance possesses health benefits, is safer than other drugs, etc.

The use of marijuana for medicinal purposes is now legal in 23 states (Brown Lee P). Yet, many people are still unable to obtain this treatment, even though cannabis possesses numerous health benefits.
