Lies lead to damaged relationships and lowered self esteem. In The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby, Nick, Wilson, Daisy and, Tom all show how they are ruining their relationships and self esteem by lying. They all have lies that they have told from having affairs to hiding things to trying to run away from an accident and all of these have in one way or another led to their relationships being damaged or losing their self esteem. When Nick was asking why Gatsby got new servants, he said that he “wanted somebody who wouldn’t gossip. Daisy comes over quite often — in the afternoons” (114).
