In the play Othello, jealousy is a theme that impacts Othello enough to murder his own wife Desdemona. Othello did not show any signs of jealousy at first and and he was aware of Desdemona's friendship with Cassio. He wasn't jealous until Iago starts manipulating his ideas. He implants ideas into Othello's head which makes him think differently. Jealousy is present throughout the play of Othello and displays the dangerous effects on the characters. Shakespeare demonstrates how powerful jealousy is and how it can destroy lives. Jealousy is a secondary emotion and typically refers to negative thoughts and feeling of insecurity, fear and anxiety over an anticipated loss of something that a person values, particularly in reference to a human …show more content…
Iago is filled with hatred and anger, with a goal to make everyone just as jealous as he is. He does through his deception and manipulation of the characters, especially Othello. Iago causes much of the situations by creating lies and implementing misleading situations. Iago always tries to start thing to make others get torn apart. The action of Othello's jealousy hinges on the role and reputation of the intermediary, knowledge of which has been lost to modern cultural perception (Hays). Othello's jealousy is tied with the relationship of the mediator. He is jealous about the other characters and how they are talking to Desdemona.
The theme of jealousy is displayed throughout the play as it changes the character’s actions. Jealousy shows greatly on the main characters of Iago and Othello and show how it affects them. As seen in the character's, jealousy causes people to change in horrific ways. Jealousy causes Iago to make his life around jealousy and sets out to destroy Othello. Othello turns monstrous from jealousness and murders his wife as a result. It totally changes him into a new person that wants blood and
