When it comes to social media we think that we are socializing because of the various existence of media technologies that we have been using, but are we really socializing? If yes, then why have people become more socially isolated than before? When I was a kid in Iran we did not have cell phones, tablets or any modern toys that look like a small computer machine. For this reason, my parents would tell us to go out to play outside and we had to make friends and play with them. Due to the passage of time and improvements in technology, social media has changed people’s lives and social interaction over the past twenty five years. Now kids rarely go out to play and make friends, or if they do they might be considered overactive and parents might think that they are facing a serious problem. People now tend to have online socialization such that the number of students who spend six hours or more per week online has increased from 18.9% to 27.2% between 2007 to 2014.(Villalobos, p.3) However, replacing face-to-face interaction with online technologies has affected students’ lives by making them socially isolated and creating mental health issues.
