Topic The purpose of this research paper (a) is to examine the effects of how Beginner level English Language Learners best learn high frequency Dolch sight words in terms of identification and application by using an iPad technology, and (b) to evaluate satisfaction and motivation among participants in the use of iPads in the sight word acquisition. The students will receive two levels to acquire in regarding identifying, reading and pronouncing sight words within 20-30 seconds. These cards can help the ESL students to reinforce the taught words at home. Flashcards are beneficial for the ESL students because flashcards help them to visualize and recognize the patterns of different words. After acquiring the taught sight words, the flashcards will be used to assess the students at the end of every other two weeks from week 1 to week 7. Old methods of teaching is replaced by the new technological methods of teaching. Smartboards, document cameras, Mimios, chromebooks, iPads, and other useful devices have incorporated in our school system so that these devices can help English as a second language learners to learn high frequency sight word easily. The use of iPads in ESL classrooms can help English language learners to understand and apply high frequency words in different contexts. The different tools of iPads provide an avenue to acquire high frequency words with ease. Reviewing previous research, few studies were found in the area of vocabulary instruction using iPads for these students. This study is designed to examine the effects of using iPad technology for port of entry students which is also called ‘pure type ESL students’ to understand, retain, identify and apply high frequency words in different contexts.
