Define Imperialism. Imperialism is when a more powerful country takes control of another weaker country and governs it and influences the country economically, politically, and/ or socially. Countries usually take over other countries do it to gain power and/or for benefits for trade.

Furthermore, the poem indicated that if you were white not only is it your duty to dominate another country but kill in the “savage wars”.
-the Berlin Conference: The Berlin Conference was a meeting in 1884 with European nations to take claims on Africa, or imperialize them. However, no representative of Africa was there and the meeting was held without their consent either. The division created several conflicts with ethnic groups because they were forced to be together and represents a negative effect of imperialism.

There were much more negative effects such as wars between Europeans and ethnic groups. Also, there were a lot of conflicts between ethnic groups because they were divided without taking into consideration the problems that may rise when they put two opposing ethnic groups in one place to live together. Accordingly, Africans lost all their land and independence and diseases spread killing many Africans.

England was the strongest and had the biggest Empire because they had a strong military and the Industrial Revolution. The Industrial Revolution helped because new inventions occurred like the steamboat that allowed faster transportation. Accordingly, machines and guns were also invented.
