I will be addressing a research question which analyses the hyper-sexualization of young girls and its effects on their expectations of themselves throughout their psychological and emotional growth. For reference and argument development, I will be examining this topic from a common societal point of view, as well a professional psychological stand point.

Taylor’s article on the sexualization of young girls in modern-day society addresses the effect of certain types of advertised clothing for young children. It provides the example of a new bathing suit line for girls that promotes the sexual viewing of children. The outfits are designed after those of adult women’s bathing suits which provide a rather provocative view of the small and underdeveloped bodies of these young girls. It also goes on to examine the role the mothers have in these situations, and how companies can stomach allowing their clothing lines to provide this type of perversion when they themselves have families at home.

They point out how it not only occurs in extremely public venues, in this case a mall, but how it is, for all intents and purposes, completely normal in everyday situations and is almost completely overlooked. There are several accounts from different mothers who shared their personal experience of the sexual content with which their very own children have had to face. The article addresses how this type of sexual exposure can have prolonged effects on these young children as they grow, such as the expectations of girls by themselves and boys to be the epitome of perfection which is ultimately
