Effects Of Horses On Autism

Decent Essays
I want to answer the question asking if horses have a positive effect on children with autism because it has always been something I was interested in. I have been around horses my whole life and have seen what a large impact they have on peoples lives. They are not only a pet but, a family member. Horses see right through a person. They can tell when you are frightened, angry, excited, and they react towards that feeling. Being around horses is my therapy to a stressful week, and I wonder if it could be others’ therapy towards bigger problems in the world. In addition to being around horses I have been babysitting for a family of seven, two of the younger boys being autistic, has made me realize how stressed someone with autism can be.

Prior to reading the book, I viewed people with autism as “different on the inside”, I now know that is not so and people with disorders should all be treated that…

Special needs children often must search for ways to cope with their disabilities. Doctors and many of their legal guardians understand this, yet they also believe that horseback riding can be a very effective and beneficial way for children with special needs to improve upon their physical, cognitive, sensory, and emotional skills. Therapeutic horseback riding usually consists of a very well trained instructor whom has both experience with both equines and children with disabilities, one or two handlers keeping the rider in place, and one person holding onto the horse. As riders progress, they may start to have less people with the horse, and more people watching from the side just in case.…

Therefore, I have dedicated numerous assignments, research tutorials and reviews, and volunteerism experience to autism spectrum disorder. I have gained knowledge about the potential neuroanatomical basis of the disorder, the current and upcoming therapeutic techniques, and potential pharmacological treatments. My fascination with and personal connection to this disorder are the reasons why Nazareth College is my primary choice for graduate school, as I wish to purse the autism concentration made available to your students. The principle reason that my experience with Luke has solidified my career choice is because of the joy I now see in him that simply was not there before. The improvements in social interaction skills are not merely that—these are skills that changed his entire life.…

A quote from Temple Gradin, an animal behavior expert and author of The Autistic Brain states, “I am different, not less.”…

Being a part of a church has taught me to always have open arms to anyone that may be different than myself, with that being said my church has introduced me to many different people from all different walks of life. My church also has a large congregation of the Asian culture. Through the many social events of my church I have learned a lot about the Asian culture between their family values, foods, clothing, and gender relations. Working hand and hand with them to serve others has taught me about the differences between our ways of life, but most of all has shown me the similarities between us.…
