Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming The greenhouse effect is the exchange of incoming and outgoing radiation that warms the earth. This occurs when the suns energy reaches the earth and its reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed. Global Warming is the gradual heating of earths surface, oceans and atmosphere. What causes greenhouse effect and global warming, is it harmful to humans, and what can we do to help it, can it be reversed? Greenhouse gases are natural gases, like methane, carbon dioxide, and water vapor. Water vapor is the most abundant greenhouse gas. As temperatures raise water is evaporated from rivers, oceans, reservoirs, and soil. In result air is warmer and humidity is higher holding more water. In the atmosphere. …show more content…
In the same fashion activities like burning of coal, exhaust fumes from cars, and tree burning produce extra amounts of gas contributing to greenhouse effect or global warming. Global warming as a result is caused from greenhouse effect. Furthermore, the burning of fossil fuels is really important to this issue. Fossil fuels are any combustible material, as oil, coal, or natural gas, derived from the remains of former life. Fossil fuels contain carbon and when burnt the carbon combines with oxygen in the atmosphere forming carbon dioxide. According to the British Geological survey changes in land use are also important sources of greenhouse gas emissions. Activities like Deforestation which is the clearing of trees, transforming a forest into cleared land. However, this results in the emission of carbon dioxide to the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases do affect global warming but there are other potential causes such as the amount of heat being emitted from the sun. Sulfate aerosols and black carbon are also causes of …show more content…
The most common thing anyone can do to prevent greenhouse gases is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Buying products used with recycled materials, purchasing products with less packaging can help reduce waste. Also, just recycling water bottles and waste in your home can save pounds of carbon dioxide. Using less heat and air conditioning is another way to help. Adding insulation to your homes can lower heating cost. This will help in reducing the amount of energy to heat and cool homes. You can also turn down your air condition at night or during the day to keep temperatures moderate. Upgrading to florescent lights rather than standard lights will save energy as well. Since driving cars can cause pollution driving less and only driving because you have to will help also this will save you gas. Trying other alternatives like walking and bike riding as well as city transportation systems. In addition, going green is on the rise and buying energy efficient products can benefit. There are many home appliances on the market now that range in energy- efficient models. Similar, using less hot water can save as well. Just to add to that turning your water off wile brushing your teeth can help the environment and your bill. Save electricity and global warming by turning light off around your house, shutting off TV’s, radios, other electronics and things
