Greenhouse Effect and Global Warming The greenhouse effect is the exchange of incoming and outgoing radiation that warms the earth. This occurs when the suns energy reaches the earth and its reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed. Global Warming is the gradual heating of earths surface, oceans and atmosphere. The most common thing anyone can do to prevent greenhouse gases is to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Buying products used with recycled materials, purchasing products with less packaging can help reduce waste. Also, just recycling water bottles and waste in your home can save pounds of carbon dioxide. Using less heat and air conditioning is another way to help. Adding insulation to your homes can lower heating cost. This will help in reducing the amount of energy to heat and cool homes. You can also turn down your air condition at night or during the day to keep temperatures moderate. Upgrading to florescent lights rather than standard lights will save energy as well. Since driving cars can cause pollution driving less and only driving because you have to will help also this will save you gas. Trying other alternatives like walking and bike riding as well as city transportation systems. In addition, going green is on the rise and buying energy efficient products can benefit. There are many home appliances on the market now that range in energy- efficient models. Similar, using less hot water can save as well.
