Having been exposed to foreign education from a young age has left me with a feeling of not belonging to a certain culture. Having had cultural influences that have been imposed through family and hereditary aspects but also shaping cultural value through experiences and everyday life in a foreign country have led to this outcome. I found this to be very interesting and hope to further my understanding of the cultural effects of foreign education through this research. I will aim to further evaluate the effects that foreign education has on individuals and the countries involved. Many believe that foreign education can lead to the loss of culture in the home countries due to westernisation and effects on individuals, emotionally and culturally. Individuals feel isolated and neglected from both their home and the foreign culture. Although some might believe that cultures are being, I believe that being surrounded by foreign culture can make one appreciate their own while being open minded about differences in cultural values. Additionally a cultural diverse education has a large implication on the personal development.
The large number of students that do still return to their home countries to aid to their cultural and economic development is the most important aspect to me. Only if the percentage of students who remain in their host countries rises above the number of students returning home will there be an overall negative impact of foreign education..
