Medically, obesity is defined as a BMI (body mass index) of 30 or above. ([10] Defining Adult Overweight and Obesity) Obesity has health risks ranging from annoying to fatal. Along with taking a longer time for exercise to affect the body compared to a person with a healthy body weight, there are many diseases and issues that come from obesity. Some examples include type 2 diabetes, gallbladder disease, heart issues, high blood pressure, strokes and even cancer. All of these contributing factors to obesity can be very intolerable. Some of these, such as cancer and cardiovascular issues, can even kill a patient. It can be taken care of by diet, exercise, or medicine such as insulin. Most importantly are cancer and cardiovascular issues/diseases. Because of the amount of body weight victims of obesity have, it becomes harder and harder for the heart to function. Eventually patients may even go into cardiovascular arrest and die. This should be treated with exercises to keep the heart healthy, a better diet, and medication if necessary. In some cases, however, medication can make symptoms worse. Types of cancer associated with obesity include Esophagus, Pancreas, Kidney, Thyroid, and more ([5] Obesity and Cancer Risk). There are many different symptoms of cancer, and some cancers have no known cure (or one that is reliable). Unfortunately, most patients die from cancer as they cannot receive treatment.
