The Effects of Exercise and Sports on Older Adults
Older adults face challenges with their health, daily independence, and everyday function as they advance in age. Aging is a process that happens to the human body, and there is no known solution to stop the aging process from occurring. Even though many illnesses and fears of falling become difficult to acknowledge by the aging population, does it mean that these downward trends cannot slow down? Stubbs, Patchay, Soundy, and Schofield (2014) are faculty members of University of Greenwich, London, UK. The authors noted after a considerable time of non-activity engagement, sedentary behavior for aging adults leads to mortality. The challenges older adults face most of the time maybe overwhelming; however, change is possible. What effects do physical exercise activities have on the aging population?

The authors noted that the concept of physical exercise is important to the research because moderate exercise may reverse the downward health trends and improve life satisfaction (Maher et al., 2015). Furthermore, the author’s pointed out that a strong correlation exists between physical exercise activities, increased health, and wellness, and improved quality of life. Falls and fear of falling affects the older population (Stubbs, 2014) and many older adults prefer to skip participating in sports or physical activities and move towards a sedentary behavior (Macniven et al., 2014).
