Why people acquire many worthless items still has not become a clear-cut reason. In The Tortured Lives of People Who Can’t Throw Things Out, authors Cecile Bouchardeau and Monica Delarosa said, “We are all pack rats to some degree.” Everyone has a tendency to hold on to belongings that no longer have meaning to possess, but not everyone has something within that makes them incapable of disposing of possessions.…

I had seen one episode of 1940?s House when it aired on PBS… but until the other day I had never watched the rest of it. I don’t really like anyone in the show except the smallest little boy and sometimes the mother. Spoiled, complaining, jerks… the whole lot of them. My dad was alive back then and he said you helped out where you could, regardless of age, you didn’t just sit around and complain about not having candy. Also, I didn’t really like the house much, it was very bland.…

There are many illnesses that are problematic and have the same symptoms of late life hoarders. Alzheimer’s or dementia are referred to most often because they are well known disorders, and you also have the lessor talked about mental, eating, obsessive compulsive, & paranoid disorders.…

Assisted living care has a primary focus “to provide personalized, resident centered care in order to meet individual preferences and needs”. These facilities provide more than just health and medical care, which is why individuals who settle in assisted living facilities are typically referred to as residents, not patients. After reading this week’s study material, one human service issue this learner chose to discuss is affordable housing. Due to the lack of affordable housing, many elderly people are at risk of becoming homeless. Martin (2014) said, “The common causes of homelessness in the older adult population includes many of the same underlying factors as in the general population, such as a lack of affordable housing, a lack of employment opportunities” (p. 166). As a human service professional, it is important to help assist the elderly with the appropriate programs that fits their needs when it comes to affordable housing. The Bible says in Matthew 25:35, “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and…
