Undeniably, the book Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson is an interesting yet enlightening read about a girl named Melinda Sordino who faces depression after a traumatic incident. There are multiple settings, but there are two major ones. The story mostly takes place at the MerryWeather High School. The next setting is at Kyle Rodger’s party, this is where her depression began.…
The passage “Making Sarah Cry”, has a theme of courage. For example, in the text, it states, “Leave him alone you bullies, because he’s a friend of mine.” This shows courage because she is standing up for someone that bullied her. Even though that person was not nice to her, she was nice to them.…
Graphic Novel Essay The novel username Evie written by Joe Sugg is a wonderful story about a Evie’s journey from being bullied and alone to fitting in. I believe the 3 main issues in the novel are technology and how in my context its futuristic, bullying and how the author’s purpose was to represent bullying as immoral and family ties also how the visual techniques in the novel showed family in no importance. In my essay I looked into how purpose, context and visual techniques shaped my response.…

As teenagers, we all get influenced quite easily. Sometimes in a positive way, and sometimes in a negative way, but all in all, we get influenced by the people that we associate with. Those people tend to be your friends and sometimes you may not want to speak up or tell your friends something personal. You are afraid to lose them or are afraid of what they’ll think about you when they find out. Our whole society is based on the “trends” where people who are more socially known (celebrities, popular kids at school etc.) tell us what to do and if we don’t then we are known as outcasts.…

In the form of a weapon, the bully constructed strings of insults in order to harm whomever they deemed a target. Another quotation I deemed significant was “You 've talked strangers into death, and laughed.” This line exhibits the disgust the speaker feels towards cyber bullies. This is due to numerous factors including, but not limited to the fact that they find amusement in causing strangers to take extreme measures with hopes of escaping the hell-hole that their life has become. The usage of the line “As each family learns to graft skin over the wounds you gave them, you hem yourselves into the scar,” reveals the emotions the speaker feels towards the bully, which in this case is accusation.…

The focus of the film may lead some to believe that the story is of the racism issues in Mississippi at this time, but the true story line is; what would you do if this was your little girl? It don’t matter if your black or white; if your child was raped and brutally beaten, what would you do as a father or even a parent? The genre of this film is actually based on crime, drama and thrill. The directors do an excellent job of placing all these genres into this film, from the rape to the trail and all the controversy in between. Courtroom dramas always make for an accelerating film.…
