Italy ranked 17th in the list of 19 most polluted countries in the world. The main reason of this is because the main industries in Italy include food processing, machinery, vehicles,.. making the country vulnerable to climate change. Since 1973, the overall energy consumption in Italy has increased by most 40%, also burning of fossil fuel leads to the emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases. This deteriorate the quality of air, making it polluted. Carbon dioxide emissions :
The level of carbon dioxide in Italy has risen rapidly since the late 1940’s. Most of human actions are responsible for the increase, including the combustion of fuel, transportation and industrialization. As you can see in the chart below, the carbon dioxide emissions have grown steeply from 1983 to 2003, for about 120 million metric tons.
