The Earth is the only known planet with the ability to sustain life. For millions of years Earth has been home to billions of various life forms and has offered a plethora of resources for each unique species. Human civilization, however, has been slowly exhausting these resources. The human footprint and its impact on the Earth has become an increasingly important issue in recent years due to the ever-increasing temperatures of the planet. This constant rise in temperature is known as “Climate change” and affects the daily lives of every being on planet Earth.
Climate change is defined by Timeforchange.org as the “observed and projected increases in the average temperature of the Earth’s atmosphere …show more content…
One of the most majorly impacted areas is the Great Barrier Reef in Aus,tralia (“Dying Coral Reefs Impact Environment and Economy”). The Great Barrier Reef is home to hundreds of thousands of lifeforms, but in recent years, the number of creatures living there has decreased by about one half (“Dying Coral Reefs Impact Environment and Economy”). This is because the Great Barrier Reef is dying. The death of the Great Barrier Reef may seem irrelevant to most people, however, it is a prime example of how climate change is damaging the Earth. Climate change is ruining the ecosystems of millions of creatures around the world, and while some humans do not see it, it is ruining theirs too. According to “It’s Getting Hot in Here” by Bridget Heos, climate change currently contributes to about 140,000 premature human deaths (Heos). These people are dying due to low air purity, dirty water sources, and poor food quality (Heos). All of these effects are direct examples of what climate change is doing to the …show more content…
If people continue their current ways, the planet will heat to irreversible and possibly cataclysmic levels. But if people choose to use renewable energies and alternative fuels, instead of fossil fuels, there could still be hope. This issue cannot be disregarded; the Earth is dying, and the only way to save it is for humans to take action. Society must forget about their own selfish needs and start taking action to help the planet. If humans do not take action soon to create a greener, more efficient world, then it will be too late. Earth has already begun to get warmer and it is not going to stop anytime soon; this is apparent when the Great Barrier Reef and other massive ecosystems have been depleting at tremendous rates. However, there is time to slow the warming. It is not necessary for the entire human race, or any other creature on this planet, to suffer because of problems that could have been reversed. It is up to the people to change the world and save the
