Why Do People Use Electronic Cigarettes?

Cigarettes started to appear in America around 1865, but they didn’t become a big thing until 1885 when the first machine was made to mass produce cigarettes. (Meyer) Around WWI, production became a bigger demand in America. (Meyer) People didn’t see cigarette smoking as a bad thing. They actually thought it was beneficial until men who had smoked for a long time would start developing lung cancer. (Meyer) When people decided to quit smoking they would use nicotine patches or nicotine gum, these would work, but not all the time. This would cause people to look for alternatives to help people stop smoking. In 2003, a pharmaceutical researcher in Beijing, named Hon lik, was trying to find a way to quit his one pack a day addiction. Consequently, he invented the first e-cigarette. Lik’s e-cigarette looks like any ordinary cigarette, but it has three main parts: the battery, …show more content…
With cigarettes you have to buy more packs every time you run out there two main pack counts 20 or 25. The 25 packs cost more than 20 cigarettes packs but the main ones that are sold are the 20 packs. A pack of cigarettes containing only 20 are $5 to $14 and the 25 pack is are about $1 to $2 more than 20 pack. Each price varies in different states New York is the highest price because they tax about $4, but in Virginia the packs are only $5. Electronic cigarettes are expensive depending on what brand, complexity, or type people get. The e-juices that they need in order to operate are $5 to $10 depending on the brand, how much is in the container, and the amount of nicotine. “ To put this in perspective, a pack-a-day smoker in New York might spend about $5000 a year on cigarettes ($14 per pack x 365 days in a year), whereas someone who uses an e-cigarette device ($10) plus a refill tank per week ($14 x 52 weeks per year) will spend about $740 a year.” ( The Journal Of Family practice
