NASA HOPES TO UNCOVER MARS HISTORY
Atomic oxygen affects how gas can escape from the Martian atmosphere. With this logic, NASA hopes to uncover more about why certain gases have eroded over the last few billion years. It's possible that Mars once supported aliens and escaping gases had a role in their demise. Earth has an atmosphere containing what we need to breathe. It also protects sums from harmful radiation, helps with the water cycle and prevents heat from escaping back into space. NASA thinks that Mars had a …show more content…
This allowed a huge burst of energy from the Sun to slowly strip Mars of its atmosphere. That stripping is still happening today, and not in a good way. Now, we come back to the atomic oxygen. Unlike the stuff we breathe, atomic oxygen only has one atom. On Earth, atomic oxygen doesn't hang out very long because it reacts easily with other substances.
In space, there is a great deal of UV radiation. This radiation breaks apart O2 and creates atomic oxygen. Now, this devil of an oxygen makes up the top layer of the red planet. Here, atoms and molecules escape into space. If that seems like a slow, cruel way to kill a planet, it is. Aliens could have been the victim of a devil inspired apocalypse. Perhaps aliens were rampant with sin and God ditched the red planet to manage earth and leave the devil in charge. Until NASA, figures out the real answer, that's the best I can do for an
