At least three out of every one hundred deaths in the United States are alcohol-related (1). Families should advocate for mandatory programs at schools, especially for colleges to implement alcohol educational programs. Alcohol drinking is a growing problem in United States schools. “As many as half of our kids are doing this (4).” When young people are watching television one of the main commercial are of the alcoholic beverage such as beer. The commercial makes alcohol drinking seems fun, but they do not show the negative side of drinking too much, like the deaths that are caused by drinking or the addiction it may cause. Additions to alcohol do not happen overnight. It usually starts as experimentation, and then moves on to regular use (3). When people usually arrange their lifestyle around the use of alcohol it develops to an addition (3). As the alcohol use continues most people start using other drugs or move to a stronger alcoholic beverage as an excuse for having fun. It should be the job of parents to observe the signs of alcohol use and to understand the addiction. Parents should monitor the alcohol in their own home. There could be signs of early misused that are not being detected. A look at the friends that a person wants to hang out with could also be a warning. Preventions may works to reduce the problems of alcohol use, but preventions are not cures for the problem of alcoholism but a start to the cure process. There is no single prevention that will work for all teens. However, parents need to know that they are the best source of getting alcohol information to children and teen. Parents should order routine alcohol screening test for teens that they suspect is using alcohol. Testing the urine concentration of teens can alert children that their parents are attempting to keep them safe from the dangers of alcohol and drug use. The best treatment for parents is to provide tough love and set a good example. If parents do not drink themselves, then the children probably will not. If a teen is still living at home with their parents a rehabilitation program should be used. Alcoholic recovery or any addition cannot start until the person accepts help.
