Effectiveness of Design and Delivery
- In regards to design and delivery, we formulated a plan to get all the students collaborating on the bat box activities. We had students do hands on learning while giving them a lot of choice in their own end products. By incorporating a social media aspect to the end product we keep the students engaged and wanting to learn more, leading them to practice skills which would guide them down a path to becoming lifelong learners. We had set specific outcomes and indicators out for the students to reach, meaning there wouldn’t be very much wiggle room in their activities even though the activities could take many shapes. With the students learning the importance of fundraising in the community, once again

Overall we realized that we had an effective plan, but there are some things that we could have done to make it even more successful. In regards to the students fundraising, it was not made clear what they were fundraising for. By having the students realize exactly what they are raising money for they would become more interested in the activity. If the students are excited to fundraise, we could have let the students decide themselves how they would fundraise (car washes, cookie sales, etc.) We also thought more collaboration between the grades would have led to a better understanding for all students. If we had the older grades share their knowledge with the younger grades, then the different grades would be collaborating with each other as well instead of just the teachers collaborating their materials when …show more content…
As the end goal of this project being the physical building of bat boxes, there are many opportunities for those who do not want a hands-on final assessment to be assessed in other ways. Students collaborating their thoughts through all the different subjects being taught allows them to take one idea from science for example, and implement that learning into their art work. Our goal of not having one specific way of assessing the students is outlined by this quote by Piersol, “the dangers of relativism are no longer relevant because students develop this sense of inter-being (connected to a web of locations), and this caring space can guide them in their way through critical social, economic, and political issues” (pg204). This quote outlines that what we want from our students is for them to really care about what we are doing in class, and not just be learning for the sake of assessment. This way they are learning to become better leaders rather than a better follower. During the entire assignment, we will not be using textbooks but rather we would be using modes of teaching such as night walks as an educational resource along with FNMI books, an idea that reinforced the writing of Battiste’s Reclaiming indigenous voice and vision

While watching the students answer the questions, I noticed that several of them never lined up the paper slip with the bat or any of the other objects they were measuring. Their endpoints never lined up, causing them to incorrectly answer the first six questions. This lack of knowledge went to further diminish their conceptual understanding of how to take the third object and measure the first two objects to compare them. This lack understanding also affected their ability to correctly order three objects from shortest to longest. The mathematical reasoning was either a hit or miss with the students.…

My elementary school,Creek View Elementary, hosts a fundraiser called “ The Basket Raffle”. Surprisingly, I remember how lively and successful the events were every year. Each class was assigned a theme that would help guide families with knowing exactly what items to donate in order to create the classes’ basket. The PTA would assemble all the items from each class in gigantic gift baskets for the highly anticipated raffle. Parents and students that desired to win the baskets had to buy tickets to put in the smaller baskets designated for choosing the winners.…

As a new administrator, understanding the culture of Grand City University is paramount. Change can be stressful and budget cuts are rarely if ever met with excitement. Much more likely, they cause people to doubt the stability of an organization and even the continued viability of there own positions. Taking the culture into consideration will dictate the solution we implement well as how these cuts are communicated to the university at large. Wisely, Beling (2014) provided anecdotal context of the pitfalls of coming in as a new administrator without understanding the institutional climate.…

INTASC Standards: 8, 9 Standard #8 - “The teacher understands and uses formal and informal assessment strategies to evaluate and ensure the continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner (Henson, 2009).” As a teacher it is important to use a variety of assessments to evaluate and ensure that students understand and are learning the content presented in the classroom. In addition to giving traditional assessments such as a quiz, exam or paper, alternatives that will be provided include group assessments, self-assessment, portfolios, observations and performance assessments. By applying varied assessment methods a check for understanding of a student’s knowledge will be better assessed since there are limitations with different types of evaluations.…

The flow of communication between the school superintendent, local school board, teachers, students, parents and community, must be transparent with written policies in place that are accessible (National School Public Relations Association, 2006). A school communications policy should be carefully written with direction on the purposes, plans and objectives how the school will communicate with each of the stakeholders (Moore, 2012).…
