The ability to be a team player is an attribute that many companies consider when hiring new team members. Having a proper team structure is essential to teamwork effectiveness and a company productivity. When deciding to proceed with an individual or a teamwork project managers must consider the complexity of the workload, skills needed to complete the work, and how quickly the company must achieve its objective. According to Robins and Judge, a work team is a group whose individual efforts result in performance that is greater than the sum of the individual inputs. In other words, are two or more individuals with different abilities and skills who comes together to achieve a common goal that would not be able to perform individually. Teamwork as any individual work has its pros and cons. Some of teamwork advantages include accurate decisions, greater output, a bigger collection of ideas, shared workload, and work efficiency. On the other hand, teamwork disadvantages include communication and interpersonal conflicts, social loafing, team pressure, time-consuming, and diversity. Besides considering teamwork advantages and disadvantages organizations and top managers must also take into account the appropriate steps to create an efficient team.
