Over the past three years, I have worked with Steve Perry. He is entering his senior year at Point Pleasant Junior Senior High School. Over the years, he has demonstrated improper social graces, which if left unattended, will adversely affect his employability as a vehicle mechanic. I have met with his father on a regular basis to discuss his grades, social skills, and to develop his Individualized Educational Plan (IEP). I have observed Steve in other core academic classes as well as his vocational classes, while attending sporting events, and during his independent work around the school. Research questions developed to focus and guide this case study include: 1) What effective social skill strategies increase development of appropriate social skills for secondary students diagnosed with SLD?
2.) What effective career awareness transition skills will increase work force success in secondary students diagnosed with SLD? During this course, I was able to interview Steve’s father. Lindstrom et al. (2011) concluded that SLD students who have been exposed to “transition specialists and teachers [who] offered a variety of intentional career-related activities such as vocational assessments, job interviews, college visits, and other post school planning activities” have developed workforce skills that helped prepare them for the workforce. This has allowed the SLD student to keep their employment status after high school and provide a means for the SLD student to further their education by attending a two-year college program or enroll in on the job training provided by the company they

The data collected from the National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 was divided into three main categories: students with intellectual disabilities, autism, and other disabilities.
