One of them is being open with the client about the importance of having a team on their side to help them achieve their goal. Open communication with the client is vital so that they know why other services are being requested. During this time, I would contact the insurance provider to see what providers the client has in their network that is near them and their coverage. If the client does not have insurance, I would help them find providers that are also in a sliding paying scale or provide services free cost. Another thing I would do is to assess the client’s level of assistance through the process. I can for example initiate the process by contacting the provider and sending the referral. In other instances, I would either ask the provider to send the paperwork so I can help the client fill it out by themselves or setting a time to help the client fill out the information. This means that the goal of the ROSC is to coordinate access to the resources needed by the client that will help increase their engagement to the program thus being able to increase their recovery. “As a result of the collaborative work done by a ROSC, these systems including criminal justice, education, child welfare, and primary care can provide the supports necessary to sustain recovery management activities” (SAMHSA ROSC, 2005). In other words, the client can receive services by many providers, but still working with a specific goal in mind. The integration of care is even more beneficial for clients with co-occurring disorders because not only they have needs such as transportation, primary physician, housing, but also need coordination between providers regarding their substance use and mental disorders. The client might be receiving for instance services from a methadone clinic, be receiving counseling services at a different place, and also be working with a case manager about finding employment and permanent housing.
