Essay On Passive Observation

The difference between passive observation and active experiment is that, during passive observation information is given by others’ personal experience and it is our choice whether to accept or to ignore it. Observation is given to us by biased experiences (Although everyone can say that they are biased in one way or another). By using observation as a way of producing knowledge are interpretations are more molded around what others have witnessed. In active experiment we are put in real life situations where our actions impact what we do, allowing no influential bias from others. Experimenting to produce knowledge is more relying on our own instincts and what we believe, despite the comments that have been told to us. Latin American culture regards a “Quinceañera” as an adolescent girl’s entrance into womanhood at the tender age of 15 (“quince años” meaning 15 years of age/15 years old). Traditionally, this coming-of-age celebration was intended “to introduce girls to society and signify they were ready for marriage” (Quinceañera: Coming of age in a bad economy by Nancy Lofholm of The Denver Post). Nowadays, this momentous occasion recognizes girls as women who are capable of wearing makeup and dating.…

Some of this is storytelling and incorporating the past traditions into their daily lives today. While other traditions are beginning to die out. Take the Navajo native language for example, according to the New directions for adult and continuing education, only eighty-seven of the one hundred and fifty-five American Indian languages are spoken. These are mainly spoken by adult who are no longer teaching their children the language (Lockard.) While the American Indian languages are slowly decreasing and causing a loss in their native cultural languages, others parts of the Native American culture are stronger than ever.…

The young woman receives: a bible, rosary, ring, tiara, last doll, bracelet, earrings, and last but not least shoes. These seem to mean nothing to certain cultures but to Hispanics it is important. I will tell you how they celebrate it; first they have a ceremony in church; the priest or minister will bless all the items that young woman will receive as well as bless her and the parents. The minister or priest will then give the young women a speech about the responsibilities and expectations that come with becoming a woman. The young woman then makes a vow to stay close to God.…

Few pieces of evidence are more powerful than an eyewitness to a crime pointing to a suspect in a police lineup and exclaiming “That’s him! He’s the one!” There are also few pieces of evidence more flawed, imperfect, and subject to manipulation by police and prosecutors. Study after study has shown eyewitness identification to be notoriously unreliable. In fact, as the Innocence Project notes: “Eyewitness misidentification is the greatest contributing factor to wrongful convictions proven by DNA testing, playing a role in more than 70% of convictions overturned through DNA testing nationwide.”…

In the article “How do you learn to walk? Thousands of steps and dozens of falls per day”, experimental research was done to find an answer to how infants learn to walk. Previous research was conducted on this topic, but it did not show anything about how much or how far infants walk, how often they fall, what makes them continue walking after falling, and how these abilities change with development. Researchers have simply focused on the structure of postures from a crawling to an upright walking position and the regular steps of infants on open grounds where they have to use natural locomotion, or the natural ability to move. This process is known as periodic gait.…

I really enjoyed the time I spent in Mrs. Flinn’s fourth grade classroom over Spring Break. I was able to observe for a total of four hours between Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning. During my time with the fourth graders, I took a closer look at the solid behavior classroom supports being used. Along with these supports, I was extremely impressed by the way Mrs. Flinn handled classroom management. Even though I observed during a very exciting week, she had great control over her students.…
