This article was written for beginning teachers for the purpose of organizing effective literacy classrooms. Because many teachers who were quite enthusiastic about teaching leave the profession in the first five years, the authors wrote this guide to help with the struggles of organizing and managing a classroom. The assumption that all classrooms are able to obtain supplies such as a special reading table just by asking the new principal shows that the authors are out of touch with the way things work in an underfunded public school. The 120 minute literacy block also seemed to state that it was the schedule all classrooms would be given.
