Self -Care
The first step in being an effective leader involves self-care. Leaders must first take care of themselves physically, which involves getting the proper amount of rest, diet, exercise, and good hygiene. Mental self-care involves academic growth, spiritual self-care is spending time with the Lord and replenishing your mind and spirit with the word, and emotional self-care involves taking the time to do something relaxing with family, friends, or alone. Selfless service is being concerned about others rather than yourself, while conveying empathy, awareness, persuasion, foresight, stewardship, commitment to the growth of people and building community (Greenleaf, 2014). With this concept, service is provide by sacrificing one’s time and energy without any concern of gain or recognition for themselves. Additionally, selfless leaders views their role to empower others to become better at what they do, to achieve greater levels of skill and ability and become better, more productive people in the process (du Plessis & Wakelin, 2015).
