The United States faces a leadership crisis as the confidence and trust in leaders has fallen to an all-time low. Only 22 percent of Americans trust our business leaders because of ethical failings and a lack in consistency in words and deeds (Darvish & Rezaei, 2011). Authentic leadership has received a heightened level of research and attention in effort to increase follower satisfaction and commitment in the workplace. Berkovich (2014) recommends a framework of dialogical pedagogy within the organization to develop and support authentic leadership. In his letter to the Romans, Paul calls himself “a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle […](Romans 1;1), while indicating that he is “obligated” (Romans 1:14) to those he has been called to share the Gospel. This is unmistakably an element of Paul’s own perspective of his role as an apostle, and as a servant of Christ. However followers and leaders should share a mutualistic relationship where all members work together to play their individual part. I learned that there are many different types of followers and the best followers seem to be emerging leaders. While these followers may have learned these abilities by their self the leader should use their transformational leadership skills to foster the follower and enhance abilities to possibly one day take the leaders spot.
