Effective Communication In Nursing

INTRODUCTION All people communicate with each other by different ways, communication skills are found in many fields of life and different practice circumstances (Phillippa, S.; Joan, D. 2010). Communication is a complex/deep process (Phillippa, S.; Joan, D. 2010) while people have to use a number of interacting factors: (1) social, e.g. a new woman in her home; (2) physical, e.g. somebody with dementia; (3) psychological, e.g. a nervous student. Communication skills are very important and a vital tool for all health workers to prevent conveying inadvertent messages about our attitudes, feelings, beliefs, assumption and our prejudices (Robertson, 2008 cited in Marilyn, 2010). Communication frameworks It is known that successful communication is shaped by main techniques, such as open-ended questions, listening, empathy and assertiveness (Alex, C. (ed.) 2015). The meaning of the concept of (communication) can be simply stated as the exchange of information amongst people by means of speaking, writing, or using a common system of signs or behavior (Alex, C. (ed.) 2015).
