This writing assignment will address two types of changes in society, and law enforcement officers, police bureaucracy, standards community involvement, technology, and examine how the selected changes have affected police operations mission, values, their goals, and objectives in the 21st century in the United States. Effective communication is a powerful tool when used correctly. It can be used in public relations as a tool and means to implement community relations to produce a positive outcome. Trust has to be established otherwise it could become an issue with constructive relations with the public. It’s my opinion agencies should send officers to school to learn new ways of effective communication to respond to the public efficiently. It has been noted there is similarities between school and workplace violence both are unacceptable. My belief it’s important to understand workplace violence; it does not happen by chance, usually the offender shows behavior such as aggressive outbursts, inability to handle criticism, hypersensitivity, poor coworker relations, decrease work productivity, depression, threats, and verbal abuse. Law enforcement must work with establishments to train staff how to detect signs of violence and procedures for reporting them. Preventive measures in the workplace I believe is business manager’s should make it common practice to prescreen future employees, conduct background investigations to rule out any types of criminal behavior in the pass. Develop a no weapons and drug test policy because workplace violence can strike anytime, anywhere.
