The ability to communicate is among the most important human skills. It has the power to break cultural barriers and open otherwise locked doors. Communication is key whether one is expressing his feelings, thoughts, or opinions. In this course, I have learned that communication is not only shown through speech and verbal expression but through the flow of a pen and clicks of a keyboard. I still have a voice without having to talk. Personally, I try to communicate through actions rather than by mouth, but as this writing course closes I believe this is subject to change. Growing in this course has taught me to collect and organize my thoughts more cleanly than I once did, which has definitely helped me to communicate my beliefs. I vow to use

Response to “The Transaction” by William Zinsser “The Transaction.” Upon reading its title, I would not have expected William Zinsser’s work to concern writing; monetary or some similar business exchange is what I had anticipated. However, the nature of an exchange is present, though, in the form of information: the exchanging of different ideas (“…he was interested in my answers…I was interested in his answers).” With this, textual evidence supports that Zinsser uses the context of a transaction in order to easily apply a comparison and contrast technique. Moreover, the technique itself provides a prime illustration of how variable writing can be, thus, proving to reflect one’s variable emotions.…

It is important that nurses are skilled in the art of interpersonal communication. Skill refers to the ability to apply the appropriate behavior in the given context. These skills include being able to encourage patients to communicate, knowing how to pose questions, responding to the replies and giving information. Effective interpersonal communication does not always occur naturally, nor it is easily acquired. Communication has been recognized as a clinical skill that, like all other clinical skills, should be formally taught and developed (Duffy 1998).…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Over the course of this semester, this class has reshaped me as both a reader and a writer. It has helped me think more critically about work I read, and to analyze the reading for components of arguments, or to find bias in the piece I am reading. This class has developed my writing style, and has aided me with becoming a stronger writer. I am now able to write persuasively, while recognizing the apposing side’s point of view. Before I started this class I was terrible at writing persuasively, however, now that I have taken this class I have learned plenty of techniques that will help me with further argumentative pieces.…

You are in class one day when the teacher announces a new assignment: students are to research and give an informative speech about any topic of their choosing. As the student, imagine that you are terrified to not only present the speech in front of your entire class, but to have to go through the process of picking a topic, researching it, organizing your speech, and practicing it as well. At the beginning of my communication class, this was how I felt about producing and giving speeches. I was nervous to talk in front of the class because I have always been very shy and have suffered from extreme speech apprehension. I also dreaded picking a topic and organizing my speeches as well, since I could never make up my mind and I was never good…

I am very thankful for taking this course as I feel I have vastly improved in multiple areas of my communication. I had never taken a course that involved writing a paper and then presenting a speech on it to the class. It was either one or the other, not both. That is what intrigued me to take this course before the semester started. For myself great strides were made in my ability to convince readers through the toulmin model, learned in this course.…

Communication shares ideas, thoughts and feeling with others. However, effective communication is contingent upon the context in which we live as well as the audience to whom we speak. For instance, communication has a huge role to play in the workplace as managers try to get the best out of employees. As managers soar to top management positions and roles change, many fail to upgrade communication skills. Personally, it is a place of isolation.…

Over the summer of 2016, I declared my major, Business Administration, and during the Fall 2016 semester, I began my journey with PCJ215: Business Communication. Amazingly the semester went by quickly, we are down to the last few weeks of class. Throughout the semester, I have continually referred to the textbook to assist with my writing, and I have found this course to be one of the most valuable courses I have taken. Communication and writing were not my strong points, and I realized this class would take an extreme amount of time and effort to complete; this proved to be true. My determination to be successful forced me to work hard and overcome barriers.…
