Effective classroom management is an essential goal for all teachers. Teaching young children can be tough job, especially in a large class. A teacher needs to have the ability to manage student behavior by using effective classroom management strategies. “Classroom management is not about controlling students or demanding perfect behavior. Instead, effective management is about supporting students to manage themselves throughout daily learning and activities.” (Jones, 2014) On this paper at least five best classroom management strategies will be discussed. All students have different learning paces; they do not all learn at the same pace. It is important to be mindful of the students who do not understand the topic and help them get up to where they need to be. Struggling students need extra attention and support from the teacher. When a student is struggling it can lead to acting out therefore, it is necessary for the teacher to give extra attention to the struggling students. On the other hand, the students who finish early become bored and that will also cause problems. A great thing the teacher can do in this situation is to have challenging quiet activities for the students who move more quickly with their school work. “Another suggestion is to share responsibility by having student’s complete classroom tasks such as taking attendance or lunch count, updating the calendar or caring for a class pet” (Garrett, 2016) Using movement to get children focused is a great example. It can be as simple as getting the wiggles out.
In conclusion, student learning is successful when the teacher is able to manage the class. Organization, connecting with the students, having classroom rules, positive reinforcement, and finally keeping student busy are all great examples of effective classroom management strategies. A teacher needs to have the knowledge and apply effective classroom management strategies in order for students to be successful in the classroom.
