Effect on learning
With the community, school, and classroom factors, learning can be affected in various ways. The school is located within five minutes downtown Ravenswood. There is access to city hall and historical buildings. Ravenswood is also located about a couple minutes from Ohio (along the Ohio River) which would give the students an opportunity to learn about Ohio and its relationship to West Virginia. Ripley is located about 40 minutes north of Charleston. School fieldtrips can be planned for students to learn more about West Virginia by visiting the capital building and other surrounding buildings. Only about 73% of the students in Ravenswood have parents who are married and still living in the home. This helps those students do …show more content…
Learning may be affected differently with students who come from families with a low socioeconomic status and whose parents work a good bit of the time. These students and parents are less likely to have support from the parents. Students from these homes may not complete tasks at home which will affect their schoolwork and skills at school. This would make it difficult for teachers to teach all students on the same level. They would need to differentiate instruction and may also need to provide extra assistance to those students to keep them on track such as tier groups. The classroom is equipped with many educational resources. This is beneficial to the students learning because it allows students to find and explore information right in the room. KC is in special education. The modifications in KC’s IEP include satisfactory or unsatisfactory grade will be given at the teachers discretions in social studies, science, and art. Also included is tests read loud when necessary. CT is also in special education. This student has an IEP with modifications that include extended class time and breaks on modified written work, modified and oral assignments and assessments. TB is a gifted student with and IEP with modifications that include a set amount of time outside of the class for math. TB’s IEP also states that this student must fill out four of the five days a week in his agenda. If this student does not fill out his agenda during part of the week, the teacher must sign and initial the information he/she has written in. The students’ prior knowledge is always reviewed before moving on to new material. This takes the form of a review or
