1. Introduction
1.1 Background of study
Speaking plays one of the most important roles in everyday life. The four major areas of communication skills and language development are listening, speaking, reading, and writing in which the one that is the most basic is speaking. This project is about the effect of small talk and role playing on speaking for Iranian young children. One of the most important skills in English is speaking and one way to understand someone has a good proficiency in English is talking it fluency and accuracy.
As Brown (2001, 267) stated when someone can speak a language it means that he can carry on a conversation reasonably …show more content…
The bottom-up approach to speaking means that the learners begin with the smallest units of language, i.e. individual sounds, and move through the mastery of words and sentences to discourse. The top-down view, on the other hand, proposes that the learners start with the larger chunks of language, which are embedded in meaningful contexts, and use their knowledge of the contexts to comprehend and use the smaller language elements correctly.
1.4 Research questions

I think it will improve our skills.
I really enjoy it because we chose our topic.
I recommend it for student.
One of the most frequent uses of role play in psychotherapy (Martin cited in Kipper, 1986).
Although one stated purpose of therapeutic role plays is to heighten affect (Martin cited in Corsini & Cardone, 1966), emotional escalation also is reported to be a problem (Martin cited in Van Ments, 1989).
However, other than the content of the role play (Martin, 1991), there is little systematic evidence about the way in which role plays affect emotionality.
I think small talk and role playing have important role in making appropriate environment for learners that they improve their speaking skills. Also both of them can play an important role in CLT and they can ignore anxiety of foreign language.
In this research I want use role playing and small talk for improving students' speaking
