Introduction
Edwin Wiley Grove was one of the most impactful pharmacists of all time. He was a multi-millionaire from making the two products he is famous for. He was the first to make a chill tonic that had no taste, and he made Bromo-Quinine Tablets “for sinus and nasal congestion, headache, feverish feeling, muscular aches and pain, and temporary constipation.” (National Museum of American History). He also helped fund the creation of E .W. Grove High School.
Summary of his Life Grove was born in Whiteville, TN in 1850. When he was in his mid twenties, in 1880, he moved to northwest Tennessee, from southwest Tennessee, and worked as a clerk in a pharmacy in Paris. He eventually bought the store from Dr. S. H. Caldwell and his partner A. B. Mitchum. He renamed the pharmacy Grove’s Pharmacy after himself. He became rich because his products were popular and satisfactory. He definitely made his mark in advertising and pharmacies across America.

However, he was very successful in life. He created a cure for malaria. That might not sound like much to people now, but when he made it, floods were happening, allowing mosquitoes to breed and spread malaria across the South. Also, his chill tonic, although it is not a cure for everything, it did help anytime one was sick. He sold millions of bottles. As the advertisement says, he sold one million five hundred thousand bottles (1,500,000) in one year. He became a multimillionaire in the process. He funded many churches and a school, too. These buildings still exist. Finally, he was just a good pharmacist. Not many people can say he or she developed a cure for malaria, became a multimillionaire, or built his own school.
