By Max Edwin Powell Hubble is considered to be one of most important figures in modern astronomy. He is known for discovering that the universe expands at a faster rate as it increases in size, a giant breakthrough in what we know today as modern cosmology. His impact on science is often compared to Galileo’s and Newton’s, and it has changed the way we think of the universe greatly. Edwin Powell Hubble was born on November 20th, 1889 to Virginia Lee James and John Powell Hubble, who was an insurance executive. Although he was born in Marshfield, Missouri, he moved to Wheaton, Illinois in 1990.
