Edwin even had a theater opened in his honor. He is still remembered today as one of the greatest actors that ever lived.

He was born on November 13, 1833. He first acted in 1849 when he and his father performed in Richard III. In 1852, Edwin and Junius went to California to capitalize on the gold rush by acting for miners. Junius decided to go home alone, but died along the way. Edwin remained to perform even after he learned of his father’s death. He grieved by drinking heavily and taking advantage of as many women as possible in San Francisco. In 1853, he received many reviews from critics praising his abilities. Later, in 1854, he went to Hawaii, Australia and many other places with a troupe of actors. In 1863, Edwin’s wife, Mary Ann died, and instead of drowning his sorrows in alcohol, he swore off of drinking and focused more and more on his work. Soon after his wife’s death in either 1863 or 1864, Edwin Booth was waiting for a train when a young man fell into the gap between the platform and the train as it began to leave.
