Although Ka’s father must’ve believed that he could escape this horrible fortune, he was eventually informed otherwise. His home, which he believed he had managed to escape, was able to catch up with him, giving him nightmares and waking him from his sleep. Ka’s father’s depiction of home was stuck on his hometown and the reminiscence of it stayed as where he hurt a countless amount of people. This fact torments him throughout Danticat's entire story as it drives him to believe that he is not worthy of the statue dedicated to him by his own daughter. It continues to be of great influence in his life, even till the very end of Danticat’s story. This demonstrates his insanity which does not allow him to sit down to talk to Ka before throwing away her artwork. Although he could have reasonably talked to his daughter
