As an educational leader you need to realize that racism and negative behaviors can happen intentionally or unintentionally. Although we may not realize that it may offend a certain group of individuals it should be brought to the attention of the one who spoke the crime. As an educational leader, you are in charge of your building how people think and how they act. You should set clear goals and understandings making sure every student feels comfortable. Within these chapters we read how society has been dealing with these issues for years and will continue to deal with them in the future. While foreign language is a core academic requirement for high school graduation, secondary language classes at an earlier age would improve overall fluency for most students. (p. 90) It’s time to introduce second-language concepts to the youngest students. By incorporating a bilingual program it actually gives them a distinct academic advantage throughout life. The more that children can take advantage of new concepts, the more in tune their brains will be to all learning throughout life. Bilingual programs will also help diminish culture and language barriers. (p.90) By implementing bilingual options even younger, students stand to benefit long-term, both academically and in life. Our text states that institutional racism can be intentional when it is a result of a prejudiced person making a conscious decision about a person or group based on their race. (p. 189) I do not believe it happens within our school district intentionally. I do believe it does have unintentionally. For example, a shop position opened in our district and several board members would talk how only females had applied for the job and that seemed “odd”.
