The key to success in any endeavor is motivation. This elusive personal characteristic is complex and different for each individual. What makes a person strive to be the best, to do his best, to work longer, harder, better? Motivation can be intrinsic, coming from inside as in a person with a strong desire to compete and win, or extrinsic, emanating from somewhere outside oneself such as a desire to for money or to provide for family, or to make others proud. Regardless of where it comes from, motivation is key to living the life that dreams are made of.

I have always been able to run long distance but my motivation behind changing the issue would improve my confidence and athletic ability greatly. So my motivation was both intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic from the feeling i get from being able to keep up with other athletes but also the extrinsic reward of being able to run faster. Though at the beginning of my project i had next to no motivation to do any cardio vascular activity due to the painful feelings it creates for me. Physical pains such as lactic acid build up, held my motivational levels back. But overtime as i forced myself to do more and more cardio my motivation grew, though it wasn 't quickly over time i saw my speed increasing and this extrinsic reward increased my motivation. Now my motivational levels are so high for running and the feeling of getting better that i rarely miss a day of cardio work in the gym.These feeling i gained for cardio which had originally hated has been both intrinsic and extrinsic and has had a large impact on how i feel about myself as an athlete and how i feel about running in …show more content…
Lack of motivation for students only impacts performance in a negative manner and , creates problems for the student and the advisor teaching the student. In nearly every aspect of a student 's schooling career requires tons and tons of hard work to be put in. Although some say no matter the conditions, if an issue is presented the human 's natural response is to care for the issue at hand. In most cases in order for the work to be done the student has to have motivation otherwise the projects and homework would all go undone.This can be seen as students with low motivation show lack of interest. This is shown as the University of Novi Sad explains in their study as they say “Every objective that satisfies motivated behavior, and is located outside the body, can be called an external motive, regardless of whether it also meets some internal needs. M. Paleksić believes that an external stimulus in the education process should be an enhancing effect, one that encourages the promotion, development and enrichment of personality”(M. Paleksić).This study shows the importance motivation has on a student 's growth and learning capabilities Some say motivation is influenced by many things in life such as factors like Ability and or resources.
